As a bodybuilder, I consume 50-100g of protein powder per day.I am lactose intolerant.

Having experimented with numerous brands and types of protein powders, I have found this product to be the best for me.

I wish it were a bit cheaper to be honest...but it is an isolate protein which is due to the extra refining it undergoes.From a taste perspective, it's okay.Palatable and you get used to it.It's not chalky but don't expect vanilla pudding taste here either.As the granules are very tiny (microlyzed) which is par for isolates...this stuff dissolves well even in water (which is what I consume it with).

It does not give me gas and doesn't appear to have any effect on my bowel movements which whey protein, unfortunately, does.

This product is fortified with essential micronutrients (except iron which is good!) including healthy amounts of potassium...essential electrolyte for post workout.Note:Most weightlifters get adequate iron from their diet or other supplements and seek to control it.

This powder also has BCAAs in it...

7865mg of leucine
3080mg of valine
4.6g of L-Glutamine

These are very nice for post-workout recovery...and saves having to add BCAAs seperately (which can get very expensive).Note that the ratios of the BCAAs are proper as well.

Lastly, and most importantly, I have definitely been adding muscle since I've started using this over the last 3-4 months.So, ultimately, if you need a protein powder to augment your weightlifting routine...this is a good choice providing you need a lactose free product.Otherwise, if you can tolerate lactose, you might want to consider a whey protein as it is about half the price.

This is my first week so I can only say so much. But the difference Ive noticed within the first 3 days is the energy level. It has really given me a boost. I use to nod off as soon as I sat on my couch cause I was spreading myself too thin. After 3 days I was feeling great, and even had to make myself go to bed some nights even though I was no longer over exhausted. And I dont feel "Jittery" or "wired" the way having too much coffee tends to.

I am unsure of the wight lost yet cause I just started so I will add on that aspect later. But I do follow the booklet thats included in the box. Its tells you how to exercise without strain, and eat healthy while taking the drink. It says to walk every other day and increase your walk roughly by 5-10 min ea. day. Ex: Mon-15min, skip tues, weds-25min and so forth.

I do admit it also curbs hunger. I went to mcdonalds and got a grilled chicken with no mayo or any fillers like that and I could only eat 3 bites. I wasnt hurngry at all so I fed the rest to my aunts dog! Many women complain it made them hungery but I learned that happes when you wait too long after the drink to get something to eat, then the tummy rumble comes in full force and its very uncomfortable cause its more intense. Eat within an Hr to an Hr & a 1/2 and you should be fine.

And lastly the taste is not bad but if its unbarable adding another 4 oz helps kick it down a notch but to get the full effect I use the reccomended 16oz. It has an ok taste, that almost similar to a sugar free, "light", or sugar substitue drink ( like with splenda/equal/sweet & low)well thats what it would taste like if your use to pure grain sugar like myself. The after taste is non existing if you can chug down big gulps at a time oppose to sippig it real slow to avoid the taste stayin on your tounge - thats when it get nasty. Oh & the colder the water the better & easier it is to go down the hatch! Well thats my findings so far - Good luck ladies, I will meet u at the slim line! :-)

Quick update: I have stopped taking this drink in June of this year (2009). The weight loss was pretty good, while taking this and changing my diet I did lose a total of about 35lbs which was way more than I wanted to lose but the extra didnt hurt. I stopped because I didnt want to lose too much weight and be a rail. Anyway I eased myself off the drink because a sudden decline or an abrupt stop in any diet supplement makes your weight come back X's 2!! So be careful. I exercised a little more than often while weinning myself off the stuff. I have gained back 5lbs of the 35 but thats because I stopped but thats minor, it couldve been more so Im goin to shut up about that part. Now that I am back to usual I still maintain my diet and I exercise faithfully at the gym with a trainer. Ive been maintaining my weight so far.

The vitamins/minerals are somewhat similar in these two drinks and can be found on the Nutrition Facts on the cans. The biggest difference is that Slim Fast Low Carb has about 73% more calories and 70 more Fat calories per drink.

The taste, which I was concerned about when I order my first case of 24 drinks, is similar with the main difference that the Slim Fast Low Carb has a smoother, creamier texture. I experimented with adding about 80 calories of cream to a ZOIC drink and it definitely acquired a smoother, creamier texture. The overall taste of both drinks, in my opinion, is a good taste; but not a great taste. I would give these products a 4.5 rating if I could.

The Slim Fast Low Carb drink with its extra 70 more calories from Fat seems to satisfy my hunger perhaps 30 minutes longer than the ZOIC drink (without any cream added). ZOIC's package states "meal complement & snack replacement" not a meal replacement; in other words, it seems logical that one would add a small portion of other healthful food to make it a meal.

Both drinks refrain from adding any sugar or sugar alcohols (make sure you are comparing Slim Fast "Low Carb" and not other Slim Fast drinks which do have sugar added). Both drinks are free from Trans Fat.

I like to use both drinks to give me variety in taste and calories. The ZOIC drink at only 110 calories is a good choice when I want less calories and less fat calories; perhaps, when a planned meal time has to be pushed back in time by a couple of hours. If I need something to skip a meal, then I will usually choose Slim Fast Low Carb.

Both of these "Low Carb" drinks are good to have on hand in the refrigerator, so you can choose 110 or 190 calories versus some other super-sized 500 plus calorie item that may be in the refrigerator too.

I'm 5'9, 135lbs with most of my fat carried in my belly area, so I bought a medium.At first I could barely squeeze my chubby tubby into the first set of hooks.I wore it for about an hour and it was a tight feel, but not uncomfortable at all.After about 2 hours, I thought I'd try and go down to the next level hook and it actually wasn't too difficult to do.Now I wear it every day for at least 8 hours while I am at work (it also helps the back - I haven't had pain from sitting in my desk chair the entire time I've been wearing it.)
At first, after 8 hours of wearing it, I would find that my body maintains the shape this vest gives me for about an hour when I took it off. Now I've been wearing the vest for a week and my shape is already changing ( I haven't lost dramatic inches, but I've got a curve!!!!) I don't like wearing it right against my skin because I do sweat a lot - I got a ton of thin tank tops and wear that underneath and I still sweat, but it doesn't feel as slimy.
After a week, my body has become used to this shape that wearing this vest is no longer feels very tight and actually seems pretty natural.The only downside is that the vest doesn't go under many sleeveless tops - the straps are big and if you don't have them adjusted right, they can dig into your armpits (I have mine at the longest length and they are comfortable.)This vest also does wonders for the breasts - I have an average chest B-C cup, but they perk right up (my theory is that all the jigglies have been squished from my stomach area and into my [...] - tee hee)
I also ordered the Squeem waist cincher in a small so I could try and transition to an even smaller waist. That one is good as well, but the vest does a better job of all over smoothness.You won't have back fat popping out the top or bottom.The vest goes down a long ways so you won't have it rolling up at all.I use the waist cincher when I want to wear a sleeveless top and it gives a nice shape.
I haven't modified diet or exercise yet, but I plan to do that to get more dramatic results.

Dren Review

I can't attest to this product eliciting a "state of heightened mental euphoria" but I have noticed more endurance in my kickboxing classes and an extra rep or two during my weightlifting.I'm roughly two weeks into my cycle and have noticed increased vascularity and more noticable definition in my abdominal/core area.I take it about one hour pre-workout with a 200-250 calorie snack that has a 1:4 protein to carb ratio and always follow up with an isolated whey protein shake.It is also important to note that I am a health-conscious eater and my beverage of choice 99% of the time is a chilled glass of water.

At first I was taking the recommended dosage of 1 capsule with no noticable effect.I started taking 2 capsules and really noticed the effects.However, I only take 1 capsule on my cardio days since my heart rate went through the roof when I took 2 (100% max heart rate which for me is 200bpm).Forty-five minutes prior to a run I took 2 capsules with a light snack and after 2.5 miles my heart was beating out of my chest and I felt like throwing up.With 1 capsule I am sweating much more in my kickboxing class and have enough energy to maintain the same level of intensity through the entire 1 hour class - some days I'll run a mile on the treadmill afterwards because of the extra energy.

The first 3 days of double-dosing I had some slight headaches which lasted maybe 15-20 minutes and I had to go #2 roughly 45 minutes after taking it (not diarrhea, but noticably looser) However, I had no GI problems and felt no crashes or side-effects other than the mild headaches.

I am not recommending that anyone take more than the recommended dose. I myself tried the recommended dosage first for 3 days before doubling it.
For comparison: I am male, in my late 20's, 183 lbs, above average fitness, and 11% body fat (measured 3 weeks ago - probably closer to 10% now since my abs are more visible)

This product works as long as it's a supplement to healthy eating and regular exercise.Good luck!

Update: As of July 27, 2008 I am currently just under 9% body fat.This product gives me incredible energy, but I also cut out most primary carbs and my snacks have been replaced with a zero-carb shake that contains 40g of isolated whey protein.It's hard to determine which has had greater impact.I am currently off my cycle so I will see if my fat loss continues without taking this product.

I liked the idea of this product so I bought it.It is relatively easy to use, with just a few pushes of two buttons, it can keep track of your daily numbers.It's very light . . . almost so light that I feel like it will break, but I have yet to break it.It has a "lock" feature so the buttons can't be pushed when in your pocket.It will also turn off if you haven't used it in awhile so that it saves batteries.

The one thing that I don't like is that it beeps every time you push a button.So if you are looking to keep track of calories discretely, know that it will make a beep every time you push a button.You may be pushing the button as many as 7-25 times to enter in a number.And might take you 3 times that, depending on how many things you are keeping track of.(ie: calories, fat and protein might be a total of 15-60 button pushes) I would not be able to "track" my calories in my office because people would probably ask what that beeping noise is.Also, in order to see the digital screen you have to be looking straight on.

All in all, I would recommend this product to people who don't want to write it down on paper or have to be by a computer . . . I would say it's worth the value (<$15).I would recommend buying a book with nutritional data or have a computer handy because you have to know the calories to be able to "track" them.
