SoLo Gi Chocolate Charger Bars, 1.76-Ounce BarsI love these bars, I'm so glad that Amazon has started carrying them, as it's difficult to find them in sufficient quantities!I literally eat one or two a day, and though a number of grocery and healthfood stores carry them, they often don't have the full cases I need.

The low GI takes a little getting used to at first - you won't get an instant sugar rush like you will from other energy bars, but an hour or two later, you'll still be sated and won't be craving more carbs.

Great science, great taste (I prefer the chocolate and chocolate mint, but my wife prefers the berry and lemon), and these make it easy to get the healthy small meals I need to maintain even blood sugar levels (no, I'm not diabetic, but I've lost significant weight and kept it off by switching to a low-GI diet and more frequent, smaller meals).

Doctor's CarbRite Diet Sugar Free Bar, Chocolate Brownie, 2-Ounce BarsThe "CarbRite Chocolate Brownie Bars" are a good choice for those seeking low carb snacks. Being a type 2 diabetic, I am always looking for low carb products that taste good. Here are my observations:

Pros:
+ Good Tasting; these are not candy bars, but they taste much better than most other "low carb" bars I have tried
+ Low Carb; only 2.5 NET carbs, but a lot of the other carbs come from Maltitol (see "Cons", below)
+ High Protein; 21g per bar
+ Very Filling; unlike a lot of other low carb snacks, these bars are actually fairly filling (likely due to the high protein content)

Cons:
- Contains Maltitol, which can cause "gastric distress" in some people - start of with small amounts if you don't know it will affect your system

Misc:
* 190 Calories per bar
* Chewy Consistency

Overall, these bars are a satisfying low carb snack choice that have a good flavor and do not significantly impact my blood sugar levels.

SoLo Gi Berry Bliss Bars, 1.76-Ounce BarsThank you for selling these Solo bars.Our local supermarket used to carry these and stopped.I have trouble with hypoglycemia, so need energy bars with low glycemic index and no chocolate (berry or lemon). Solo is one of the few or only bars that tastes great and doesn't cause sugar problems.Thus I have become dependent on having these with me at work and on trips for the mid morning sugar low or pre workout snack in afternoon.

Doctor's CarbRite Diet Sugar Free Bar, Cookie Dough, 2-Ounce BarsIt is hard to find the perfect Bar but this will do for now.
The Bar I'd like would have the following characteristics
- high protein
- low Fat
- low sugar or no sugar
- around 200 calories
- good taste
- low price

This Bar has most of these qualities except it does have
a higher sugar alcohol level than I would like.
I have used this product for years and am satisfied, obviously.

Doctor's CarbRite Diet Sugar Free Bar, Toasted Coconut, 2-Ounce BarsReally enjoy the CarbRite bar for taste and have come to rely on its lasting energy (which is in part one of the benefits of the fat content).For a regular-sized bar, it's actually time-consuming to eat because of its chewiness--so the satiation factor is pretty high.It's ironic when the bar is praised on taste but criticized for having a 7 grams of fat when this is largely how the bar achieves its smooth, rich impact on taste.Anyway, there are many more reasons to avoid sugar (promoting fat storage by driving up insulin, for one)--which is another thought covered by this low-carb bar.

SoLo Bars, Peanut Power, 1.76-Ounce BarsThis is a product I won't hesitate to endorse. It has everything I am looking for in a low glycemic index energy bar. It's packed with vitamins and nutrients, is low in calories and tastes great. I give them to my son who has special needs and they help to keep his appetite in check. He loves the peanut butter and chocolate bars. I tend to have dips in my blood sugar between meals and these bars are great as a "hold over" snack until I can eat a meal. The only problem I have is I wish they were sold in more stores.

Dr. Melina Protein Bar, Lemon Raspberry, 1.58-Ounce Bars (Pack of 15) Review

Dr. Melina Protein Bar, Lemon Raspberry, 1.58-Ounce BarsAs an avid weightlifter and biker, I'm always looking for healthy ways to get more protein into my diet, so I have tried a wide variety of protein bars.What I like in a bar is decent flavor, not too hard to chew, quality ingredients, and of course good fat/sat fat/carbs/fiber/protein numbers.

So how does this bar stack up against the competition?

Well, for this particular flavor, you better really like lemon, because it is certainly very lemony, so it is not really a great flavor to me, but better than many.

The texture and ease of chewability were very good, some bars are just impossible and my jaw actually hurts after I'm done with them, plus they stick in my teeth afterwards, this bar is more like a granola bar texture, so it is above average in that category.

Some of the ingredients leave something to be desired.They are not organic, or at least don't say that they are unlike Clif and some other bars.It also contains Fractionated Palm Kernel Oil, and I'm not an expert, but from what I understand any time you do that to oils it makes them much less healthy for you but gives the product a longer shelf-life, so good for the product, bad for us.

Last, but certainly not least, how does it stack up in the nutritional numbers.The Calorie to Protein ratio is pretty good, you get 1 gram of protein for every 12.86 calories, so 4 of those calories are from the protein and 8.86 are from fat and carbs.If you compare that to other bars, Clif Peanut Butter - 20.83/gram, Kashi GoLean - 18.75/gram, MET-RX Big 100 Super Cookie Crunch - 12.81/gram, it's doing pretty good.

How about the all important F word, fat.No Trans Fat, but really there aren't many bars left that do have that, but still a good thing.And the Saturated Fat is slightly lower than most bars I have looked at.The total fat is also in line with the competition, so really nothing to differentiate it in this category.

In fact when looking at Fiber, I come to the same conclusion, 5 grams is good, but most other bars also have around that amount.

Sodium is only 3%, which is much lower than the 10-20% many of the others have, so if lowering sodium is one of your goals, this bar excels in that category.

Also with only 7% of your carbs it comes out near the lowest on that front.However, it does use Sugar Alcohol to help meet this end, which has been linked with excess gas and/or laxative type symptoms in some people especially when consumed in large quantities.

And then we have vitamins and minerals, this bar is pretty sparse in this category, it does have 20% of the daily amount of calcium combined with 30% D to help absorption, plus just a hint of Iron 6%, but that's it.No A, C, E, B-6, B12...well you get the idea.So since science still has not, and may never, completely understand the total impact of vitamins and minerals on the human body, I tend to lean towards foods and bars that have a nice balance of many different vitamins and minerals, just in-case one of them is needed for a certain tissue or cell to recover properly from a workout, or even to prevent diseases.

So, in a nutshell, this bar does have some nice advantages in certain categories, but comes up a little short in others, so don't just buy 10 cases and think you are going to be the image of heath by just eating them.Like so many other things in life, moderation and variety will serve you better than putting all of your faith in one thing.Go ahead and add them to your list of reasonably healthy and quick options if you like the taste, but make sure to balance them with "real food" nuts, berries, greens, lean meats, beans, etc. if you want to reach your next level of health.

Dr. Melina Protein Bar, Cinnamon Almond, 1.58-Ounce BarsIf you have a busy schedule I highly recommend Dr. Melina Protein Bars.I work as a film/video producer and I'm always on the run.I now keep one of these in my bag at all times for the times I can't grab breakfast or lunch or dinner- they help keep me going and away from the snack table.They're also great to take along on the plane now that they no longer feed us.All three flavors offered are tasty, but the Cinnamon/Almond is my favorite.It's really hard to believe these are good for you.
